The Iraqi “leaders” will learn that being adamant wins you no friends. It may be quite stupid to try and hold elections when they are unlikely to take place without huge violence. Unfortunately Mr. Bush did not think beyond Sadam’s killing or capture, except for the passing thought, yes, that oil might be handy. The “leaders” of Iraq would be much better playing hardball with Mr. Bush right now instead of forging ahead with an arbitrary and damaging timetable dictated by pre-election America. They will not gain or keep power through being sheep. But then sheep are best not handed power after all.

Free lunches are known to be proverbially unknown. The proverb has finally had to bow down to science. A recent study by Prof Matthew Liberte of the Sore-bun University in Paris, Texas has been claimed to disprove the theory once and for all.
Despite an extremely limited study group of one instance of “lunch”, Prof. Liberte claimed his research was scientifically unbreakable. The Prof. was discussing the days affairs with a colleague in London when the colleague mentioned he had been invited to lunch at a friends house. Prof Liberte’s scientific brain jumped into overtime and he began to see how he could inflate the possibilities that had just been thrown open to him. Before “lunch” had even begun, Prof. Liberte had attained funding of one point four squillion dollars, yes squillion dollars. The Hells Oil Company claimed the funding had nothing to do with Prof. Liberte’s defense of the company during the inflamous Sheepgate trials by proving their was no such thing as a free lunch.
After “lunch” was over, Prof. Liberte undertook the arduous interviewing needed to genuinely call this a rigorous scientific study. “It was easy to show a solid conclusion that every instance in the control group “lunch” broke the proverb”, said Liberte, “and it does not matter that we only looked at the one case”, he continued. Adding “The proverb was it’s own undoing - ‘No such thing’ - you only have to prove one contrary instance to demolish this lie forever. And the research funding was, frankly, the icing on the cake - hum, that gives me an idea for a new project”.
Prof Liberte can be contacted for just about anything that pays hard cash.

100+ visitors in a couple of hours of posting a story, a story made up to
get visitors, which worked. Is it news - because I can make up a headline?
The real proof is if people come again and read more. But that might be hard
to tell because of the increasing death-toll claimed in the headline. It is
not in fact fictitious, 1333 people died of hunger since writing the
original post, below.

Headlines create readers - it’s as true in Blogging as in writing newspapers. It is so easy to pitch the headline at drawing in the readers. It is also true in online shopping where the marketing sites trawl the net and create click grabbing page headlines that draw audiences. People are so easy to press the buttons of it is a wonder they ever claim to have free will. Some have more than others of course. Meanwhile some 29 persons have died of hunger whilst this post was written.

Here it is folks, it’s apocalypse time. Yes, the lid is coming off, welcome, to the age of truth. We have had the age of reason and like all ages it has come to an end. Reason has become so obtuse in practice that it will now burst under the weight of its own stupidity. Just look at the world around you if you want the proof.
Luckily we are moving into the age of truth. The age of truth will be marked by a fair and efficient economics and the general state of affairs among humans will be peace. There are good signs that the power of peace and truth and compassion are beginning to take a marked ascendency. Ukrain is all over the TV at the moment for all the right reasons.
The re-election of Bush will only speed this trend as anything which burns reason’s remaining fuel more quickly will reduce it’s remaining life more quickly. The fuel of the age of reason is the belief that it will lead to a good world for all men. That is clearly becoming harder to believe as the “more and more dangerous world” now sold by the powers of reason is clearly itself fuelled principally by the fight against it.

Everyone needs to find peace within themselves, peace with who they are. Some are handicapped in that regard by past events. A self can be divided, not only by the lie of it’s own cohesion, or ego, but also by traumatic events. Events traumatic enough to completely split a person from the memories of those events can be remembered later if the person does the right work. The lies of the “False memory Syndrome” industry are best interpreted as a part of our denial. The persons behind it may be in denial about having been abused as children in some way or even about being abusers but the best bet is that they are in big denial about something. Why else they would deny this truth from its passionately necessary uncovering is hard to discern. I realise some persons involved with FMS promotion have actually been the victims of false memory recall at the hands of unskilled therapists yet these persons would be much better off helping survivors of abuse than doing what they are doing. The fact is that any therapist unskilled enough to be planting or encouraging false memories is also in denial about their own abuse or some part of it and needs their help too. Denial can range from negating the effects or extent of abuse to not having a clue that it happened.
These things matter because child sexual abuse is a great demon in our midst’s. Research Studies generally estimated that somewhere between five and twenty five per cent of western populations are sexually abused as a child. As many people have no idea they are victims we could place a conservative estimate at more like twenty to thirty per cent. These persons make up to seventy five per cent of our criminals, drug abusers and prostitutes. They will be less likely to work and more likely to claim benefits, they will require more health care and will die younger. Their children will fall into the same roles in life, more likely than not. In Africa increasing numbers of babies are raped each day because, the rumor goes, that raping a baby will cure you of AIDS/HIV.
The problem is world wide and produces, especially amongst those who do not remember, a lot of angry people whose life has no meaning. This is the dangerous and fertile recruitment ground for the suicide bomber, fundamentalist and cult member. Interestingly, the lack of meaning is a bodily phenomena due to distortions in posture needed to hold memories at bay. Constrictions on the musculature, vascular system, nervous system and breathing combine to render the person only partially conscious and unable to feel. They do not have the functioning perceptive apparatus to make sense or meaning out of life. They can also end up being gutless or spineless individuals, frightened easily into immobility. It is actually their lack of functioning muscles in areas around the spine or gut that account for the sayings.
When one in three to one in five or more people are not walking around the planet doing drugs, causing crime, selling their bodies, suffering meaninglessness and otherwise out of their own control, there may actually be a chance of finding peace on earth. It will certainly move us a step nearer to the necessary apocalypse, a Greek word which means to uncover.

This story from the samizdata.net blog gives a nice synopsis of Channel 4’s The Real Monarch.
Basically, the lot we’ve had for about the last six hundred years are all bastard pretenders or the descendents thereof. The true Plantaganet line has been traced to a bloke called Mike who emigrated to the Australian outback many years ago. Jolly nice bloke seems too - sadly not keen to take his ‘rightful’ place, but then he’s a republican after all. Please Mike, arise to your destiny, come claim your right. And then make the UK a republic.

David Blunket said yesterday that he wished people would stop pretending that everything government do is against the people or somehow oppressive. Mr Blunket is forgetting the party that he works for grew out of reactions to such oppression. The Blair, Brown & Mandelson troika may have set a path for the party which has taken it well away from its roots, but in becoming such supporters of money and the monied classes New Labour has for many people become oppressive.
We Brits see the war in Iraq as oppressive, as an act of empire, and we are ashamed of being part of it. We see the Government making things harder and harder for those on social security whilst failing to keep now old promises to close tax loopholes for the super-rich. We see Mr Blunket, as home secretary, having overseen an increase in closed circuit television cameras to the point where we are the most surveyed people on earth whilst we go about our daily lives. It seems almost every time Mr Blunket opens his mouth it is done to judge reaction to yet another whittling-away of human rights.
I’m sorry Mr Blunket but you are authoritarian and oppressive. Mr Blair, your boss, is so full of his own righteousness that to control and coerce has become first nature to him - just look at the way Ken Livingstone was treated - and I am afraid this has rubbed off. Labour can best be described as a narcissistic party, a party lured by money and fame, a party that cares all for image and nothing for substance. Narcissists are control freaks by nature, Mr Blunket, and everything you do has more than a faint whiff of being against the people or somehow oppressive. That’s why your latest squeeze on human rights will win you no friends.

The bids went in for the 2012 Olympics this week amid a blaze of publicity and patronisation. Londoners were told we “need to get behind this bid”. Why? The Olympics is all about ego, personal and collective. It is about nation verses nation and I am bigger/stronger/better than you. I do not need to get behind this bid. In fact I am vehemently opposed to everything the Olympics is and stands for. I hope London does not win this resource gobbling ego-fuelled circus.
Meanwhile there is an acute housing shortage and significant unemployment in the area where the facilities will be built. In Newham vulnerable persons are having to wait four or more years in temporary accommodation before they are provided a home they can call their own. Sometimes this temporary accommodation is a small flat or tiny bedsit, often it is a “hotel” room. This can be as small as 4 feet by 10 and contain a bed, shower, sink, fridge and wardrobe. Where the vulnerable person has to pass their day is either walking the streets or in such a claustrophobic hovel. Drug use is somewhat prevalent and this is understandable given the hopelessness of the lives concerned.
The Government thinks spending £2.5 bn of public money on the Olympics will be a good thing. I accept it might give us a little adrenaline boost and “sense of civic pride” - egotistic joy at how “great” we are - but will it make us feel better than building the 40,000 homes this money could build? Is it more civilized to put on a great show or to provide homes for those whose lives are on hold while they wait?
I am asking silly questions as usual, along the lines of ‘is it civilized to let 16,000 children die every day needlessly?”. The answer to all of the above questions is no. Let’s hope the Olympic Committee think London too big a terrorist target and award the games to Paris.

Terror Laws to go further - from the BBC
The continual increase in noise about terrorism coming from Tony Blair’s Government certainly helps keep the public fearful and pliable. Whether it is based on any real information regarding the threat to the UK we will not know. Hidden behind the idea that secrecy keeps us safe, demons are perhaps being invented and waved before our eyes, by a small and small-minded group who see the world in very black and white terms. David Blunket’s latest proposals continue the assualt on basic doctrines built up over many years and basic rights which were hard fought for. If we win these battles against terrorism, are we in danger of losing the war?
