King Mike and The Bastard Pretenders

This story from the samizdata.net blog gives a nice synopsis of Channel 4’s The Real Monarch.

Basically, the lot we’ve had for about the last six hundred years are all bastard pretenders or the descendents thereof. The true Plantaganet line has been traced to a bloke called Mike who emigrated to the Australian outback many years ago. Jolly nice bloke seems too – sadly not keen to take his ‘rightful’ place, but then he’s a republican after all. Please Mike, arise to your destiny, come claim your right. And then make the UK a republic.
